About The Medical Interpreter Competency Examination

By vsc - Posted on 20 October 2009

At this time, there is no nationally recognized credential for medical interpreters, and very few medical interpreter assessment options at all.

Yet, it is more important than ever for employers to be able to assess an interpreter’s ability to ensure that the federal requirements are being met and clients are receiving the treatment they deserve.

The Medical Interpreter Competency Examinatiton (MICE) allows employers to show that they take the needs of their client with limited proficiency in English seriously, and are doing all they can to ensure both equality and excellence.

The MICE covers:

  • Consecutive Interpretation
  • Anatomy and Physiology
  • Medical Terminology
  • Interpreter Ethics
  • Sight Translation
