The Court Interpreter Certificate of Proficiency (CICP) is an interpreting performance test developed by NCI. The Arizona Supreme Court accepts successful passage of this exam as proof of ability to interpret in the superior courts in the state of Arizona. Passage of this exam is required for interpreters working in the superior courts in Maricopa and Pima counties.
The CICP assesses candidate performance in the three modes of interpreting. All scenarios are based on authentic court documents that reflect the complexity of cases routinely encountered in state court. The test is structured as follows:
direct examination of a witness
police report, legal document
opening statement or closing argument
|Test Instruction Time||5 Minutes|
