The Institute faculty is comprised of highly experienced interpretation specialists, all of whom are federally certified interpreters.
The Institute owes much of its success to its extraordinary faculty.
Roseann Dueñas González, Ph.D., is a full professor of English at the University of Arizona, and the Director of the National Center for Interpretation Testing, Research and Policy.
In 1979, Dr. González served as the primary consultant to Congress in the development of the Court Interpreters Act of 1979. She was awarded the contract to develop and administer the Federal Court Interpreter Certification Examination (FCICE), which carried out from 1985-2000.
During that time, the FCICE became the standard model for all interpreter testing that followed. In 1983, Dr. González founded the Agnese Haury Institute for Court Interpretation, which has set the standard for interpreter training, just as the FCICE did for testing. In addition, she was the principal author of Fundamentals of Court Interpretation: Theory, Policy and Practice, which has become the standard text in the field, setting the agenda for the continued professionalization of court interpreting.
Through these three projects, Dr. González has been intimately and integrally involved in defining the field of court interpreting since its inception.
